Community Development at the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation involves community consultations and data collection to plan for our Nation’s long-term success.

Community Development Initiative

We have signed on to complete a 3 year Community Development Initiative pilot project in partnership with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada and Urban Systems.

The Community Development Initiative will capture current needs and priorities in the community and create a plan to address those needs for the next 5-10 years. The data and tools created throughout this project will be used to provide leadership and staff with the information they need to make informed decisions to achieve community goals. This holistic approach ensures that the community develops in a way that benefits areas included in the comprehensive community planning wheel.

BOCN, Urban Systems, and INAC will work together to identify goals and measurement tools that are important in developing capacity for community growth on-reserve.

The project is important because it provides an opportunity for members to be part of understanding community goals, and shaping a plan to achieve those goals. It is also a chance to build capacity and open communication in the community and among staff members. The future success and growth of the community will be measured based on information gathered throughout the project.
