STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF: COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED AT BOCN

Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation, Treaty 6 – The following statement was released by Chief Ananas today:

“I can confirm that 1 positive case of COVID-19 exists at the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation. Significant efforts are underway through our Emergency Management and Health departments to ensure the safety and well-being of our community members.

Contact tracing is underway and the affected individual has self-isolated and is self-monitoring.

We are working with Willow Cree Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority to ensure that those individuals who have or may have come into contacted with the affected individual are notified. While we cannot release the name of the individual due to privacy legislation, if you think you may have come into contact, you are urged to contact 8-1-1.

At this time, I want to assure our community members that this is an isolated case and that all appropriate efforts are being taken to ensure our community’s safety.

Do not panic, but be extra vigilant – wear a mask, sanitize and wash your hands thoroughly, and stay home if you can. This will be a stressful situation, and adding to that stress by engaging in rumor or gossip on social media does not help.

Please pray for the health and well-being of our community members.

We will update you as the situation changes.

If you are feeling ill, refer to the list of symptoms and contact 8-1-1.
