Jeremy Seeseequasis is a second-term Councillor with the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation. He is responsible for:
- Social Development
My name is Jeremy Seeseequasis. I am the oldest son of Joseph and Gloria Seeseequasis. I was born in Weyburn, SK but was raised in the Duck Lake/Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation area. Here I spent twenty years. In 1995 I moved to Edmonton, AB.
I ended up working for a manufactured homes company called Winalta Shelters. After three years with this company I decided to attend University. I chose the University of Alberta and graduated with two undergrad degrees in 2003 – Political Science and Native Studies.
After convocation I spent four years working for both the Federal Governments, Department of Canadian Heritage as a contract employee and also as a contractor for the University of Alberta.
In 2007 I decided to make my way back home. I ended up working for the band in the Education Department as the Post-Secondary Coordinator. After five years of that, I felt I wanted more in a position so I applied for the Director of Health. I did this for just over two years. It was here that I decided to run for Council. I served one term as a councillor and was given the portfolios of finance and lands. I also assisted in Economic Development and in Governance. I recently was blessed in my re-election bid for Council.
I have two children – Dentin aged 21 and Maddie aged 2. I still play competitive soccer. As of late I have found a new passion, and that is Crossfit. I also enjoy reading, listening to music of all kinds, watching movies and learning new things; especially things related to good governance and financial management.
I look forward to serving you for the next three years. All the best to you and your families.
