Employment Opportunity: Community Wellness Worker – Addictions (BSW, BISW)
JOB DESCRIPTION: The incumbent is accountable for the provision of direct clinical mental health and addictions services to children, youth, adults, Elders, and their families.
This position will perform generalized social work services as assigned, mental health counselling support for clients with addictions related issues, and referrals to treatment centres required. Further duties include case management and public education.
The position is part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of psychiatric nurse, mental health therapist, social workers, and functions within the practice principles of the mental health and addiction services program management. Multi-disciplinary work will involve program support to other members of the team, as needed.
Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Indian Social Work, or Related Human Service Degree
- Provision of integrated mental health and addictions counseling services to outpatient clientele report preparation, team meetings, maintenance of client records;
- Facilitate educational/informational and or treatment groups;
- Consult with other health care providers and community agencies as outlined in the client’s treatment plan;
- Advocate for client services;
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other health care professionals within the organization and community;
- Provide crisis management as needed;
- Administration duties will include completion of weekly work records, monthly activity sheets as it relates to clients and consultation, prior approval forms and other forms as required;
- Actively participate in clinical supervision;
- Participation in quality improvement activities as required;
- Other position related duties as assigned by the team lead;
- Ability to work flexible hours as required by the mental health team (i.e. evening/weekend workshops, groups, camps, etc.); and
- Full participation within the Indigenous holistic framework of WCHS (spiritual, mental, emotional, physical activities).
- Minimum of three year experience in counselling individuals, groups and families surrounding issues of Alcohol and Drug use. Ability to providing informational sessions within the community. Knowledgeable in various drugs and their effects on the individual and community’s physical, spiritual, mental and emotional state. Experience working with First Nations populations is preferred. Knowledge and experience using a holistic approach to wellness is an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Excellent interpersonal skills to create and maintain relationship with community partners;
- Provide reports, attend meetings and various trainings to stay current in the position. Provide education and awareness on various drugs and their effects within the community;
- Experienced in case management;
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Knowledge of community, outpatient and inpatient service delivery systems;
- Culturally competent practice; and
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office word processing and spreadsheets, email and internet.
- Current CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check;
- Driver’s License;
- Registration with the respective regulatory body;
- Some flexibility in work hours is expected (periodic evening groups, mental health support at events, etc.); and
- People who identify as First Nations or of Indigenous background will be given preference.
