UPDATED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN RELEASED
Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation, Treaty 6 – “We have worked tirelessly with community members and our partners on this project, we have conducted the most extensive outreach in the history of our Nation; and through the Community Development Initiative, today, Jasna and I are proud to officially release the 2017 Community Development Plan and the online indicators dashboard for the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation!” exclaimed Kevin Seesequasis, the Councillor responsible for Community Development.
The aim of the project is to develop a Community Development Plan (CDP) that captures current needs and priorities in the community and create a road map to address those needs for the next 10-15 years. The new CDP can be used to measure success moving forward.
“I’m grateful that Council ratified our new CDP on November 8, 2017” says Jasna Eyahpaise, the BOCN Community Development Officer. “This is a working document for staff, leadership, and community members when planning for funding or community initiatives.“
The new CDP and online indicators dashboard are a result of several community engagement activities including community surveys, on and off reserve information sessions, elder and youth forums, and a mapping exercise done at the 3 schools.
“We collected thousands and thousands of surveys, held consultation sessions in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and in Edmonton. Our new CDP and dashboard are a reflection of all that data” added Eyahpaise. “It’s really quite amazing!“
“Jasna has worked so hard, and our community has embraced her work wholeheartedly. Its my hope we’ll all embrace this new plan – a plan for our future success and prosperity!” concluded Seesequasis.
The Community Development Initiative is a 3 year pilot project in partnership with Urban Systems and Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada. The project began in 2015.
