For Immediate Release

May 1, 2017

Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation, Treaty 6 – The following statement was issued by the Councillor in charge of Public Works & Housing, Edwin Ananas, today regarding the on-going issues at the Water Treatment Plant.

“I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience as we work to address the on-going situation at the Water Treatment Plant. The last few days have been challenging, but all the staff have worked hard to confront the issue – we appreciate your understanding in the matter.

The Water Treatment Plant suffered a mechanical breakdown and due to the nature of the breakdown, the system was not receiving the pressure it needed to adequately deliver water. This necessitated the initial “Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory”. The duration of the challenges lead to a full-on Boil Water Advisory over the weekend.

As of today, I can report that the ‘truck fill’ is now fully operational and normal operations for water delivery have resumed.

Unfortunately, however, Willow Cree Health is still conducting water testing on the main system and therefore all water systems in the subdivision are still on a Boil Water Advisory. We do anticipate back-to-normal, full operations very soon. We will keep you apprised of any updates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Public Works department at your earliest convenience.”
