Notice is hereby given to the electors of the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation that a referendum will be held by “in person” secret ballot to seek the assent of the majority of the electors on the proposed Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation Constitution, Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation Executive Act and Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation Financial Management Act.

This referendum will coincide with the Election as an additional ballot.

An informational session will be held in conjunction with the Per Capita Distribution Payments and Information Session on March 2, 2017 at the Beardy’s and Okemasis Rec Centre.

Ballot Questions:

  1. Do you approve of the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation Constitution?
  2. Do you approve of the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation Executive Act?
  3. Do you approve of the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation Financial Management Act?

Members of the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation who have reached 18 years of age as of the day of the referendum are eligible to vote.

Eligibility requirements for the Office of Chief or Councillor:

  • Member of Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation
  • 18 years of age or older as of the day of the nomination meeting
  • Criminal record check proving the potential Candidate has not been convicted of an indictable offence in the past 10 years, or proof of a record suspension (formally known as a pardon); potential candidates can request a declaration of criminal record from the local RCMP detachment
  • All Candidates must pay an Election fee: for the office of Chief $400 Dollars (CDN), for the office of Councillor $200 Dollars (CDN)
  • Drug Test showing no presence of banned drugs as in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, S.C. 1996, C.19
    • Drug testing will by facilitated by Innovation Training Solutions, local testing will occur on March 6, 2017 between 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Rec Centre, Beardy’s & Okemasis. Alternatively, drug testing may be done through Innovation Training Solutions between March 7-9, 2017 in either Prince Albert or Saskatoon. Call 1-306-763-0306 for the address and to schedule an appointment
    • Potential candidates must also sign a waiver of confidentiality to disclose the results of their drug test to the Electoral Officer
    • The amount of the drug test, payable by the candidate to the company, is approximately $95.00
