Original Statement:

“At 4:30pm today, Councillors Jeremy Seeseequasis and Kevin Seesequasis received a briefing from the Commander of the RCMP Detachment in Rosthern and can confirm that a single body was discovered north of Duck Lake this morning as media reports have indicated.

At this time, the RCMP believe this to be an isolated incident and do not believe there is an immediate threat to members of the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation or the Town of Duck Lake.

We cannot comment on the identity of the victim, nor can we comment the nature of the investigation, however, we wish to advise that community members should refrain from speculation.

Due to the nature of the incident, RCMP have also sealed off the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation landfill and access to community members is prohibited for the time being.”
