Re: Break and enter, vandalism at Willow Cree Arena and Blackhawks Grill & Pizza
Dear Band Members,
For the last 3 nights, vandals have stolen chips, bars, gum, and pop from the Blackhawks Grill & Pizza.
Last night, they did the same thing, but this time, took it a step further.
They busted eggs and beer bottles, and even discharged a fire extinguisher – all on the ice.
Due to chemical composition of the contents of a fire extinguisher, we have had to scrape the ice continuously – we cannot flood because we do not know how the fire retardant will react with water and whether that reaction would damage the ice.
In addition, staff advised that community members were smoking tobacco and marijuana inside the facility.
Due to the seriousness of the incidents, effective immediately:
- the Arena and Canteen will be re-keyed and bolted costing upwards of $2,000.00.
- security cameras will be installed costing upward of $1,000.00.
- all $5 hockey is cancelled until further notice.
- all non-sanctioned tournaments are also cancelled until further notice.
It is unfortunate that this level of disrespect would be shown to our facilities and that a few community members could ruin it for everyone.
If community members have any information relating to these matters, you are encouraged to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at 306.232.6400
