For Immediate Release

April 14, 2016

Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, Treaty 6 – A second employee has been terminated in as many days at the Chief Beardy Memorial Elementary School.

RCMP contacted the school last week to advise the principal of CBMES that an employee of the school had been apprehended and was facing criminal charges.

We need to reiterate that this other situation, while similar in nature, is unrelated and has nothing to do with the students of CBMES” said Candace Scott, Councillor in charge of Education. “But I can confirm that this individual has been terminated and is no longer an employee of the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation.

Another employee was terminated yesterday and is currently facing criminal charges. In a statement dated April 13th, Council reassured the community that they were working with appropriate agencies and asked community members to refrain from speculation.

At this point, we have no reason to believe that any student of CBMES has been affected by this new situation” concluded Scott.
