Contract Awarded for Jansen Lake/Discovery Lodge Catering & Housekeeping Services
Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, Treaty 6 – A new partnership between Horizon North and the Beardy’s & Okemasis and Fishing Lake First Nations has resulted in Two Lakes Horizon North being awarded a catering and housekeeping contract to service the Discovery Lodge Operations at the BHP Jansen Lake Mine.
The BHP Opportunities Agreement allows priority access to companies with a First Nation majority ownership share.
The partnership created last month sees a majority First Nation ownership of the new company – Two Lakes Horizon North – which successfully bid on the project.
“I received news that on October 27th we had been awarded the contract for the catering and housekeeping services at the Discovery Lodge/Jansen Lake mine” exclaimed Roy Petit, Councillor in charge of Economic Development at the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation and BHP Senior Advisory Team Member. “It’s been tough keeping this a secret for a week, but today we can finally announce this amazing opportunity for our community and our people. Not only is this a step in the right direction for our own economic independence, but it ensures real opportunities for employment for the people of both Beardy’s & Okemasis and Fishing Lake First Nations!”
The letter dated October 27th from BHP Billiton Canada states:
“Thank you for your company’s proposal for the Discover Lodge Operations RFP requested by BHP Billiton Canada Inc. After evaluation of all proposals received, BHP Billiton Canada Inc. has decided to accept your proposal. We will be following up shortly with a Contract for this work.”
“We look forward to creating more opportunities with BHP and are confident that other opportunities will present themselves in the future” concluded Petit.
