Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, Treaty 6 – The Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation is moving forward with the development of a Community Constitution through the Yahkotewin Governance Planning Committee.

The consultation phase is the first step toward guiding our community toward reasserting our nationhood” explains Councillor Kevin Seesequasis. “Our Governance Planning Committee has been working hard to ensure that these critical first steps incorporate as much community input as possible – and more opportunities are coming; but it’s our hope that as many of our community members will take advantage of this unique opportunity and be part of our Constitution’s development.”

The Constitutional Development Consultation Session is open to all members of Beardy’s and will occur on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, beginning at 10:00am at the Rec Centre. Lunch will be served.

Yahkohtêwin was created to ensure that a constitution is created for the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation. The vision of Yahkohtêwin is to guide our community toward reasserting our nationhood and our mission is to work together to strengthen and share our traditional knowledge, values, beliefs, and customs; we will nurture our identity by teaching our people “sisip sakahikan iyiniwak” – our way.
