Re: Smoking in Public Buildings

Dear Band Members,
We value the health of our members and seek to foster mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being in our community.
In 2007, the leadership of the day passed a bylaw prohibiting smoking in public buildings with the key exception for cultural and ceremonial practices and/or events.
To this end, our Council is again reaffirming our commitment to healthy work, living, and public spaces by prohibiting smoking in the following public facilities:
- Beardy’s Band Office
- Beardy’s Rec Centre
- Beardy’s Seniors Hall
- Beardy’s Justice Building
- Beardy’s Arena
- Beardy’s Daycare
- Constable Robin Cameron Education Complex
- Chief Beardy’s memorial Elementary School
- Willow Cree Health
- Willow Cree Education & Training Centre
- Blackhawk’s Gas
- Blackhawk’s Grill
Further, we request that you smoke a minimum of 10 feet away from the front entrances of these facilities.
Finally, all ceremonial and cultural practices/events are exempt from this policy. In the case of funerals, we will leave it to the respective families and their wishes but request that Band members honour their request.
